My Charity That RIB skippering brought me into contact with the Ellen MacArthur Trust, a charity set up by Dame Ellen MacArthur. You may recall in 2005 she, as a 26 year old solo sailor, set a world record for sailing around the globe (27,000 miles) in 71 days. She subsequently established the charity supplying skippered yachts to be crewed by youngsters either suffering or recovering from the devastating effects of cancer, leukaemia and other serious illnesses. I have seen first hand how the youngsters (aged between 8 and 24 years) realise they are not alone, become part of a team in a wonderful sailing environment and experience a real sense of adventure. It has proved in many cases to be life changing. Dame Ellen and her team are delighted we have chosen to support them.” All at the club wish Trevor all the very best for his year as Captain. |
