Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly newsletter. In this week's email, we discuss all the latest from the club, we have our final video from Ian Poulter looking at hitting a hybrid from the rough and we explain why we stock a particular brand in-store. Enjoy the read.

Is slow play coming to an end?

The Rules of Golf are undergoing dramatic change at the moment as the R&A and USGA – golf’s two governing bodies – look to bring the game inline with today’s needs. Their Rules Modernisation initiative includes several updates that’ll hopefully bring about a faster speed of play and shorter rounds of golf; no one wants to be taking 4+ hours to play 18 holes.

Well now the European Tour want to do their bit and to be fair to them, they’ve been at the forefront of modernising golf with innovative events such as Super 6 and GolfSixes. This week they’ve introduced a new event onto the 2018 calendar – the 2018 Shot Clock Masters. As the name suggests, players will have a strict 40-second shot clock on each stroke in an aim to cut round time by at least 45 minutes. The punishment if they take too long? A one-stroke penalty.

Coming up

The last Friday social of the year takes place this Friday (27th) so please do come along for what is sure to be a fun night of Bingo!

There is the small matter of a £400 members draw prize up for grabs and remember to claim the prize all you need is to be in the clubhouse at the time of the draw!

All sections will be having their AGM's in the coming month ahead of the club AGM in December, please keep an eye on the notice boards for further details and contact the relevant committees if you have any issues you want raised.

Seniors section

Thursday, 19 October 2017 - Seniors Trophy Winners Vase and Reg Little Cup

The Seniors section played a dual competition in rather damp conditions where the competitors were divided into two separate competitions.

The Trophy Winners Vase strokeplay competition was for members who had won a trophy or medal during the season and the Reg Little Cup stableford competition for the remainder.

The Trophy Winners Vase was won by Bill Devenish with a delightful nett 65 in not the best of weather conditions. John Ireland was second with 67 and Ray Hurst’s nett 70 was enough for third place. Steve Lupton returned the best scorecard of the Reg Little Cup competitors showing 39 points with Ted Groves second and Lionel Burns third, both scoring 36 points.

Titleist
Take dead aim

We've spoken a lot in recent weeks about Titleist's brilliant 718 irons that were launched at the beginning of the month, but now it's time for us to talk a bit about their new 818 hybrids.

As you can see in the photos below, there are two different hybrids in the H1 and H2. Whilst the H1 is the larger of the two and perfect for those golfers who sweep the ball off the ground, the H2 is for the steeper golfer who prefers a more iron-like look.
