The American looked to be heading towards trouble on the 10th only for his wayward tee shot to ricochet off a tree and back onto the fairway. If that wasn’t a sign that it was going to be Thomas’ day then what followed on the same hole definitely was.

The 24-year-old’s eight-foot birdie putt stopped on the edge of the hole, defiantly staying above ground for over seven seconds, before eventually dropping to the bottom of the cup. He followed this with a chip-in birdie at 13 and a birdie at his penultimate hole – set up by a sublime 214-yard 7-iron to 15 foot – to win the USPGA by two shots.

Congratulations to our Men’s over 50 team who have made it through to the Semi Final of the Bridport Bowl. A 4.5 to 0.5 victory over Wellow on Sunday was well deserved.

Seniors Kelso Turton Trophy results

Ross Matthews and Rob Young combined well in the blustery conditions to return a pairs Texas Scramble score of nett 63.75 to win the Seniors Kelso Turton Trophy.

Second place, separated only by a half point from the winners, went to Kevan McLaren and John Preston on 64.25.

In third place it was Dave Stredder and Dave McGavin with 66.75.
