Pros news

Saturday, 1 July saw the running of the Men`s Invitation day. It was so good to see such a full sheet and to welcome guests from far and wide. The course, as usual, was in stunning condition and the weather was equally kind. An amazing prize table was put up, special thanks must go to the organising team as well as the sponsors who kindly donated prizes for all the nearest the pins.

The competition was fierce, with just 2 points separating the top 6! Eventual winners however were Andy Drodge and his partner Bertie. Their score of 44 points tied with Wilbur Smith and his partner Graham Horner, but due to an impressive count back score Andy and Bertie took the title!

Winners - Andy Drodge & Bertie - 44
2nd - Wilbur Smith & Graham Horner - 44
3rd - Richard Coulson & Alan Wickers - 43
4th - Jason Hallam & John Kennedy - 42
5th - Paul Jerram & Josh Young - 42
6th - Dom Wharton & James Wharton - 42

Club news

The June 100 Club was drawn last week. Congratulations go to Shirley Hindmarch, Eddie Spencer, Phil Doling and Graham Lloyd whose numbers were drawn out for the June cash prizes.

A big congratulations to our members who recently completed the Macmillan Cancer Longest day golf challenge. 4 rounds in a day is some achievement. Special mention to Tommy "Tin Cup" Wells who completed it on 4 different courses with a knee injury! Well done Tommy and it's great to hear that your guests liked our course the best!

Men's section news

Well done to both Jim Moody and Mike Dawkins on their victories in Sunday's competitions. Mike won the Les Williams Trophy with a gross 72, beating Tony Hobbs who also shot 72 back into second place.

Jim shot an impressive nett 63 to take the Centenary Bowl by one shot from Godfrey Trollope.

Saturday news

Chris Angell wins Stableford 41 points.

I'm no Angell: "Winning the Green Jacket last month has given me great confidence. Today I played some good stuff and I feel so at ease with my game. When I was younger I had a temper and used to smash my putter against my dad's Morris Minor. That's how I got my name 'I'm No Angell'. However, today I am a chilled, laid back family man who loves his work panel beating."

Well played Chris nice one!

Simply Gorgeous: "Apologies to my playing partners today for my sensitivity regarding getting in my eye line on the tee and on the green. My smouldering Latin temperament sometimes gets the best of me but my game is on the slide and my hair is going grey...Please forgive me and 'Earsy' can I borrow your Grecian?"

Summer Pairs result

Cliff & Alan beat Keith & Chris 1up.

Grinder: "Well played to 'The Banker & On The Edge' what a close game. 'Sonar' and I hope you now go all the way and lift the trophy. Good luck it was a cliff hanger!"

Semi final draw:

- Brian & Coops vs Dave & Nick

- Cliff & Alan vs Terry & Chris

Ladies news

Lady President's Day was played last Wednesday, despite the inclement weather the ladies played 14 holes and for poor Ann Spurrett it was the 3rd year in a row that rain interfered with her day. It was nice to see Barbara Shaw & Eileen Carruthers back on the course.

After drying off, the ladies enjoyed a superb roast beef luncheon, thank you to Sue and team.

Wednesday Medal

Winner - Sally Dickinson - nett 72, Runner up - Sue Herbert - nett 74

Centenary Cup

Winner - Ann Spurrett - nett 67, Runner up - Sandy Thomas - nett 67

Seniors section

Prior to the shotgun start, Seniors Captain David Stredder welcomed everyone to his Captain's day and wished all an enjoyable time on the course and said that refreshments would await them on their return to the Clubhouse.

With heavy rain forecast for late morning the seniors anticipated a wet finish to their Senior Captain's Day Medford competition but fortunately that never materialised.

Some good scores were produced and the best of the competition was Kevan McLaren who recorded a nett medal front nine score of 33, less a stableford points score of 24 for the back nine making a total carded score of 9. Seniors Captain David Stredder was thanked for his sponsorship of the competition prizes and refreshments.

The seniors' played a match at Ampfield on Thursday, 29 June. New Forest prevailed in April 4 matches to 2 but Ampfield had their revenge 5 matches to 1. There was however consolation. Ampfield being a par three course has ample opportunities for a hole in one (eighteen to be precise) and Rob Young duly obliged on the 10th. The other eleven players therefore have given a pound to the Captain's charity.

Upcoming events

Friday, 28 July - Social night - Golfer non Golfer and Pub quiz. Members draw is now up to £250.

Saturday, 19 August - Summer Event - 4 ball Texas scramble and Hog roast.
