Changes to 'Out of Bounds' - Holes 3 & 10
After discussions with the Section representatives and Greens Staff during the Greens Committee meeting held on Saturday, 17 June, it has been agreed to trial changes to the O.O.B on holes 3 and 10.
- Hole 3 - The O.O.B marker behind the large holly bush has now been removed, the final white post in line with the holly bush now formally marks the end of O.O.B.
- Hole 10 - The first O.O.B marker after the hazard has now been removed so O.O.B now commences further up the slope.
If you have any feedback on these trial changes, please relay them to your Section representative so they can be discussed at the next Quarterly Greens Committee meeting.
Pro-Am Friday, 23 June saw 24 professionals and their amateur teams descend upon our club for the annual Pro-Am.
The course was in excellent condition, the weather was kind and there was some superb scoring.
We are extremely proud though that the winning professional, with a brilliant score of 64 (5 under) was our very own
Michael Lord!
Club Captain
Paul Rogers had the following to say:
"Mike, you are a great ambassador for the sport of golf and a true gentlemen. I've had many highlights at NFGC, but presenting you with the overall winners Pro's cheque was most pleasurable. We are so lucky to have you as our club professional..." Men's section news This week's Anniversary Cup threw up some pretty impressive scores, no least from
Budgie Bowles who stormed to victory with a score of 46 points!! He was pushed very close however by
Tom Hobbs, who's gross 64 resulted in a measly 45 points!!!
Well played gents!!!
Saturday news The Saturday lads were also in action at the Pro-Am and ably supported
Mike on his way to winning the Pro event. Here is their take on the day!!
Magic Mike:
"I'm so pleased today winning at my home club. The course was a credit to the hard work of the greenkeeper team. It allowed me to roll so many putts with confidence. All the visiting pros and amateur golfers were full of praise. Fantastic! The food was great girls and thanks again to John Ledger.
Tonight I've decided to treat the wife to an Italian. The Domino's delivery man will be arriving at 9 then I'm off to bed. Will I dream as usual tonight of Billy Bremner in those white shorts or my putt on the 7th?" The Grinder:
"What a great day. I felt so proud with the team performance. We all did our bit in supporting 'Magic's' great round. The round was littered with pars and birdies and my son 'Baby Grinder' had a par frenzy from 11 to 14 which was crucial to our momentum.
The 'Portuguese Giant' was yet again a flamboyant maverick with pars and birdies and on 15 he sportingly stooped to allow a team high five after a stunning birdie. However, 'Baby Grinder' did aggravate an old knee injury as he lept like a Scottish salmon.
Finally, I was pleased with my grinding performance, pars and birdies and a cracker on 8! Overall a great effort lads and a great day to remember. A cherished moment." Ladies news
A big thank you to the Ladies who helped out at the Pro-Am to make it a success.
Also well played
Glynis Barrow who along with her team mates came a very respectable third in the team competition.
Round up The New Forest Seniors' played two matches in three days in the week beginning 26th June. At home against Southampton and away against Burley. They performed creditably with a 3-3 draw vs Southampton, who beat us 5-1 in April away. Burley seniors' defeated us 3 1/2 to 2 1/2.
The top match in this match was a closely fought one with no team ever more than one hole apart. Teeing off on the 18th the match was all square and on the fringe of the 18th green with no side having a clear advantage, hands were shaken.
Next week sees the Captain's day with goodies galore on offer. We are also gearing up for the seniors' quad which this year will be held at the Royal Winchester on Monday, 17 July.
Date for your diaryMen's Invitational is coming around quickly. This year's event takes place on
