Although I am away playing this week, normal service remains at the Club. The midweek competitions are now in full swing and there will be a new one each week. Don't forget to pay your entrance fee in the clubhouse or bar and submit your card afterwards.
A little reminder that the clubhouse is open late during the week and even if you haven't played, there is opportunity to sit out, enjoy a beer and the unrivalled views across the forest. Remember that guests are most welcome so why not make the club your Friday evening after work venue.
A beautiful Sunday morning greeted the Men's Section as they gathered to compete for the Chairman's Cup and Centenary Bowl. Congratulations to Tom Hobbs and Darren Baynton for their respective wins.
Who needs putting lessons when the Hobbs Twins are about?
The lads have developed a novel way to eliminate three putts from your card. If you play against the boys and you three stab, you have the dubious pleasure of wearing the snake hat! Just ask Mark Chivers who had the honour of wearing this amazing headwear all round as nobody else but him three putted!
Beware of the snake!!
Saturday News
Richard (Coops) Cooper - 42 points, Mark (The Swinger) Lister - 39 points
Coops "late nights, night shifts & unshaven I never dreamt of carding a great round today. However, my days as a male stripper at Stanmore Working Men's Club has given me great stamina, a smooth chest and flexible hips!"
Well done Coops great round!
Summer Pairs Result
Dave & Nick beat Ted & Terry by 1 hole.
Terry "Super Six"..."Well played guys you just had the edge over us today. "Ted 2" & I have been planning all week for this match and we nearly did it! We knew Dave "Timeshare" Barrett would be suffering from jet lag and Saturday's sexiest player "Simply Gorgeous" was still breaking in some new size 12 golf shoes purchased from Mike that had caused his vision to be blurred on the 1st! Talking of Mike, may I take this opportunity to thank you. Since that movie you made of me holding my chipper my short game has been transformed and Ted's driving is showing promise since our lessons with you. Mike, you are MAGIC and we both hope Leeds will one day also be magic...like Bournemouth!!"
Ladies of the NFGC are seen enjoying themselves at a very warm West Wellow golf course, the Lady Captain called them 'The Magnificent Seven'
We certainly didn't burn up the golf course but fun was had by all.
Seniors Section members met on a windy and cloudy morning to compete in their May Monthly Medal Qualifier. The well managed greens assisted those competitors with a good putting stroke whilst the strengthening wind penalised any wayward drives. Ross Matthews and Roger Linfield achieved success in their respective Divisions and as always, the seniors enjoyed their morning on the course.
Competition prize winners were:
Division One 1st - Ross Matthews - nett 65 2nd - Steve Duckett - nett 67 3rd - Trevor Davies - nett 68
Division Two 1st - Roger Linfield - nett 70 2nd - Ted Groves - nett 71 3rd - Graham Fearis - nett 72
Seniors Tommy Trotter Trophy
The Seniors Section was well represented for their mid-week competition day where members played stableford format qualifier for the Tommy Trotter Trophy.
Kevin White finished top of Division 1 with his score of 41 points and this was enough to claim the position of overall winner. Roger Linfield, with his total of 36 points, was the best of Division 2.
The seniors have had a good couple of days. They hosted Walhampton on Tuesday, 9 May and won 5 and a half to a half. The stars were Vice Captain Trevor Davies and Bill Devenish who won their match 9 & 8 & Dave Barrett and Ross Matthews who having been six down at one stage ended all square.
On Wednesday, 10 May they travelled to the wonderful Southwick Park and won three and a half to two and a half. Of more interest is the existence of a shield between the seniors section of the two clubs. The basic rule is that the shield is held until the next year. To win it back the following year the match has to be won away. As Southwick had until now it is now in the possession of the New Forest Seniors until 2018/ 19 at least.
Competition prize winners were:
Division One 1st - Kevin White - 41 pts, 2nd - Chris Webb - 39 pts, 3rd - Steve Duckett - 37 pts.
Division Two 1st - Roger Linfield - 36 pts, 2nd - Dave Barrett - 36 pts, 3rd - Charlie Tabor - 34 pts.
The latest phase of Club improvements is now taking place. The fencing around the front of the clubhouse is being replaced this week and will then enable works to finish on the new patio area. In addition the outside of the Clubhouse will shortly receive a coat of paint in time to welcome all summer visitors to the club.
Tickets are now on sale for the Annual Dinner Dance. Contact the office to purchase yours.
